Luann Udell works in mixed media retelling ancient stories using modern artifacts.  Luann says "I make artifacts that look like prehistoric carvings of animals like Horses, bears, fish, birds, dogs, etc., inspired by Ice Age cave art, especially the Lascaux Cave in France." She uses a faux ivory technique which adds to the feeling of mystery and authenticity. She also uses these as embellishments in her fiber collage work. Small ones are used in jewelry, larger ones become sculptures, or artifacts in her assemblage work.  Luann says "I believe we all have a story to tell, and a creative aspect to our nature. Mine comes from finding myself lost in the world, and embracing my inner artist, inspired by my kids and wanting to be a role model for them. Making my art also encouraged me to write about my journey, and to share what I've learned about the art world and art marketing with others."

Luann is self-taught.  She says "Part of my journey is encouraging others to find and embrace their own creative work, because when we find joy in our efforts, we can be restored to our highest, best self in the world."  Also, she has been told that her studio is a "cabinet of wonders". People enjoy all the nooks and crannies, the works in progress, the drawers full of older artifacts she's made and collected.  She says "I am a highly-successful hunter-gatherer!"
